Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Georgian ცხოვარი (cxovari), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *c₁xwar-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *c₁xow- (whence also ცხოვრება (cxovreba), ცხოველი (cxoveli), სიცოცხლე (sicocxle), etc.). Cognate with Mingrelian შხური (šxuri) and Laz ჩხური (çxuri). Old Armenian ոչխար (očʻxar) is a Georgian-Zan borrowing.
