Possibly from Sanskrit बलि-द्वीप (bali-dvīpa, island of offerings) or Sanskrit वली-द्वीप (valī-dvīpa, island of waves). From Sanskrit बलि (bali), Sanskrit वली (valī) or Sanskrit वलि (vali) and from Sanskrit द्वीप (dvīpa). Cf. Java.
