Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₁uers- (“humidity”). Close to Sanskrit वर्षा (varṣā, “rain”), Albanian versë (“dew”), Armenian գայրր (gayrr, “dirt, mud”), and Old Persian باران (bārān, “rain”).
