Ancient Greek

Etymology

Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *woǵʰlos, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ- (whence also ὄχος (ókhos) and Arcadocypriot Greek ϝέχω (wékhō, to bear, bring)), with cognates such as Old Norse vagl. Compare also Old Armenian յոգն (yogn).
