The power on-off button: a circle with a vertical line in the centre.

Origin[edit]

Created 1973 by the International Electrotechnical Commission as a translingual symbol for electronic products intended to be shipped around the world; probably a combination of two other symbols, (power-off) and (power-on).

Symbol[edit]

  1. (computing) Turns a device on or off by fully disconnecting the power supply.
