/ɕikari ɕi/ → /ɕikaɕːi/ → /ɕikaɕi/

Possibly a shift from 然(しか)り (shikari, “being like so”, the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of classical verb 然(しか)り (shikari, “to be like so”)) + し (shi, the 連体形 (rentaikei, “attributive form”) of past recollective auxiliary き (ki)), contracting from shikari shi to shikasshi, and then further to shikashi.

The initial sense may have been parseable as that [preceding statement] being so, ..., much like English phrases such as be that as it may or that said, followed by a statement in opposition to the earlier statement.
