Etymology[edit]

From 使(つか) (tsukai, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb 使(つか) (tsukau).) + (かっ)() (katte). The katte changes to gatte as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
