Etymology
[edit]First attested in the 三國志 / 三国志 (Sānguó Zhì, “Records of the Three Kingdoms”), particularly in the 烏丸鮮卑東夷傳 / 乌丸鲜卑东夷传 (Wūwán Xiānbēi Dōngyí Zhuàn, “Records of Wuhuan, Xianbei and Eastern Barbarians”).[1][2][3][4][5][6]
From Classical Chinese 卑彌呼 (OC *pie mie hɑ) in Later Han pronunciation,[7] the original pronunciation remains uncertain.
