Etymology

Possibly a dialectally-preserved disyllabic form of (OC *kroːɡ, *ɡ·roːɡ, “corner; horn”). Unattested in Old Chinese or Middle Chinese literatures, and its usage seems rather recent.

Cognate with 角落 (OC *kroːg g·raːg, “corner”), an emphatic form of .
