   • 1918, Okamoto Kidō, Shinjū Naniwa no harusame [Naniwa double suicide and gentle spring rain]:

     三(さん)月(がつ)も半(なか)ばを過(す)ぎて、浪華(なにわ)の花(はな)を散(ち)らす春(はる)雨(さめ)は夜(よる)の更(ふ)けるまでしめやかに聞(きこ)えた。

     Sangatsu mo nakaba o sugite, Naniwa no hana o chirasu harusame wa yoru no fukeru made shimeyaka ni kikoeta.

     March was half over, and the light rain scattering the flowers of Naniwa could be heard until late in the evening.
