Etymology[edit]

The first syllable 祿 () is possibly a Kra-Dai substrate; compare Zhuang lueg (mountain valley). The substate word is more often written as (liù) in toponyms of Guangdong and Guangxi.

The second syllable () may be the same word as the homophonous (, “pier”).
