簫の笛 (shō no fue): the blowhole of a Chinese xiao end-blown bamboo flute.
Kanji in this term
しょう
Hyōgaiji
ふえ
Grade: 3

Etymology

Compound of (shō, xiao, a kind of Chinese flute) +‎ (no, possessive particle) +‎ (fue, flute).[1]

Synonymous with just (shō) on its own.[1] However, given the rarity of this kanji in writing, and the large number of possible single-kanji terms pronounced as shō in Japanese, the longer version that specifies (flute) is used to clarify and disambiguate.

Pronunciation

Noun
