First attested in the Worin cheongangjigok (月印千江之曲 / 월인천강지곡), 1449, as 두루미 (Yale: twulwumi). Likely Altaic cognates include Proto-Turkic *durunja (crane) (whence Turkish turna), Japanese (tsuru, crane), Mongolian тогоруу (togoruu, crane)). Compare also Hungarian daru (crane).
