Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as 드리다 (Yale: tulita). From 들— (deul-, “to enter”) + (-i-, causative suffix) + (-da, declarative ending). Compare 들이다 (deurida, “to allow in”).
