First attested in the Worin cheon'gangjigok (月印千江之曲 / 월인천강지곡), 1449, as Middle Korean 드듸〮다〮 (Yale: tùtúytá).

디디다 (didida) (infinitive 디뎌 or 디디어, sequential 디디니)

  1. (transitive) to tread on
    계단-을 디딜 조심해라.
    gyedan-eul didil ttae josimhaera.
    Be careful when you're treading on the stairs.
  2. (transitive) to tread, to tread with (with object such as 걸음 (georeum, “step”), etc.)
    벼랑 -에 있었고 -을 잘못 디디면 죽음-이었다.
    byeorang kkeut-e seo isseotgo bar-eul jalmot didimyeon jugeum-ieotda.
    I was standing on the very edge of a precipice, and if I trod a wrong step, it was death.
