[edit]Sino-Korean word from 半島, from 半 (“half”) + 島 (“island”). Possibly a calque of a Western word such as peninsula or Halbinsel.

- Phonetic hangul: [반(ː)도]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
