Etymology

From (, seol, “snow”) + (, nong, “thick, strong, concentrated”) + (, tang, “soup”); from the soup's whitish, cloudy appearance and concentrated flavor. A corruption of the original name, 선농탕 (先農湯, seonnongtang, “soup of the venerated farmer”).
