Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as 디내다 (Yale: tinayta). From Middle Korean {{ko-l|[[디나다||tina-|to pass}} (whence also Modern 지나다 (jinada)) + (―i―, “causative/passive suffix”).
