From 촌(村) (chon, “countryside”) + ㅅ (-s-) + 닭 (dak, “chicken”).

- Phonetic hangul: [촌(ː)딱]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
