Etymology

Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek παρατηρῶ (paratērô), contracted form of παρατηρέω (paratēréō), from παρα- (para-) +‎ τηρέω (tēréō). The sense "observe" is a semantic loan from French observer.[1]
