Bikol Central

Verb

kaag (kaág)

  1. to put or place something on or in a certain place
    Synonyms: patong, bugtak, laag, palis

Dutch

Pronunciation

Etymology 1

From Middle Dutch câech, from Old Dutch kāg, from Old Frisian, from Proto-Germanic *kaugi, *kauga, of uncertain ultimate origin. Proposed connections include *kagilaz (stake, post, pole) (which would make it a doublet of kegel (cone)), or possibly related to *kēguz (stake, post); see Old English cæg. However, because of the difficulties in sound laws and semantics in these connections, it is probably rather from a Northwestern European substrate word.[1]

Confer German Koog and Danish kog.

Noun

kaag f or m (plural kagen)

  1. A tract of land unprotected by any dykes.
Alternative forms

Of obscure origin, but probably related to Old Norse kaggi (vessel, cask).

  1. (historical) A small single-masted flat-bottomed merchant sailing boat with leeboards, intended for coastal and inland shipping.
