In modern non-poetic use, this preposition is mostly used only with inherently directional nouns (such as in (deprecated template usage) שמאלה (smóla), from (deprecated template usage) שמאל (smol)), and in a few fixed expressions (such as (deprecated template usage) הַבַּיְתָה (habáyta)).
