Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hsawṣáyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsawšáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂sows-éye-ti, from *h₂sews- (to be dry). Cognate with Russian суши́ть (sušítʹ, to dry), Lithuanian saũsinti, Old English sēarian (whence English sear).
