Etymology
From Byzantine Greek σπίτιν (spítin), from earlier or Koine Greek ὁσπίτιον (hospítion), from Latin hospitium (“lodgings”). Compare Albanian shtëpi. Displaced earlier Ancient Greek οἶκος (oîkos).
