English

Etymology

Sydney +‎ -sian (c. 1837) Potentially derived from the sound /dʒ(ə)n/ used in Glaswegian or Norwegian, with the g substituted by an s to form 'sian' rather than 'gian'.

Noun

Sydnesian (plural Sydnesians)

  1. (archaic) A native or inhabitant of Sydney, Australia.
The Sydnesians then went in and scored 97; while in the second innings their adversaries only scored 32, leaving 33 in favor of Sydney with only one innings. (1837)
