Sino-Korean word from 水曜日, from 水曜 (“Mercury”) + 日 (“day”), from Latin dies Mercurii (“day of Mercury”), through Indian astrology in the fifth century as Sanskrit सौम्यवार (saumyavāra, “of the planet Mercury”) into Buddhist astrology in the eighth century as 水曜日.
