- A hamlet in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Dutch Alkmare, from Old Dutch Alkmare, Alcmare, Alcmere, Allecmere. Compound of an unclear first element and either Old Dutch mere (“lake”) or mare (“watercourse”). The first element has been variously linked to Old Dutch alk (“crow”) and *alke (“mud”). A derivation from Proto-Germanic *alha (“temple”) or *alha (“moose”) is unlikely. Compare Alkemade.
