From Ancient Greek ἀλλότρια (allótria, “strange or foreign things”), neuter plural substantive of ἀλλότριος (allótrios, “foreign, strange”), from ἄλλος (állos, “other”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂élyos (“other”).
