From Proto-Indo-European *tótḱ-us, from *tetḱ- (to weave, braid, add, establish, construct). Cognate with Latin texō (weave, braid, build, compose), Ancient Greek τίκτω (tíktō), τέχνη (tékhnē), τέκτων (téktōn). Also compare Proto-Celtic *taskos.
