- Năm 803, Truyền giáo Đại sư vâng chiếu chỉ của Nhật hoàng sang Trung Hoa học đạo. Khi về nước, ngài mang theo rất nhiều kinh luận của Thiên Thai tông, rồi truyền bá giáo lý của tông này ở Nhật, lập thành một trong hai tông phái mạnh nhất của thời đại Bình An (794 - 1186). Các nhà nghiên cứu thường dùng danh xưng “Bình An nhị tông” để chỉ cho hai tông mạnh nhất vào thời đại Bình An, đó chính là Thiên Thai tông và Chân ngôn tông.
- In 803, the Dengyō Daishi received the mandate from the Emperor and left for China to study religion there. When he returned, he brought with him the many theories of the Tiantai/Tendai sect, and he went on to preach its doctrine in Japan, in the process establishing one of the two most influential sects during the Heian period (794-1186). Researchers have dubbed them the “two sects of Heian,” and they were Tendai and Shingon.
