Russian adjectives where the stem of the short forms is irregular compared with the stem of the remaining forms. Examples are солёный (soljónyj, “salty”) (short forms со́лон, солона́, со́лоно, солоны́/со́лоны); ма́ленький (málenʹkij, “small”) (short forms мал, мала́, мало́, малы́); and большо́й (bolʹšój, “big”) (short forms вели́к, велика́, велико́, велики́. (In the latter two cases, the short forms come from the synonymous adjectives ма́лый (mályj) and вели́кий (velíkij), respectively.)
