German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From desertieren +‎ -ation, formed by wrong analogy with other Latinate verbs in -ieren which form a corresponding noun in -ation, such as deklinieren (from Latin declinare) → Deklination (from Latin declinatio), and possibly in part by confusion with the similar-sounding Dissertation. The proper Latinate form is Desertion.
