From Middle High German donerstac, from Old High German donarestag, thonarestag (11th c.), from late Proto-Germanic *Þunras dagaz (day of Thor). Compare Low German Dunnersdag, Dutch donderdag, West Frisian tongersdei, English Thursday, Danish torsdag.
