Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as doronburc in the beginning of the 9th century. Likely a compound of doorn (“thorn, thorn bush”) and burg (“fortified settlement, castle”). A derivation of the first element from Old Dutch Doro (“a personal name”) is less likely.
