Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as doronburc in the beginning of the 9th century. Likely a compound of doorn (thorn, thorn bush) and burg (fortified settlement, castle). A derivation of the first element from Old Dutch Doro (a personal name) is less likely.
