(medicine) A stainless steel ring sutured to the sclera to support the globe during difficult eye operations.used usually in corneal transplant surgeries where scleral rigidity is low, historically used in all keratoplasties now use is limited to paediatric keratoplasty, aphakic eye, and keratoplasty when combined with lens extraction.
