Derived from Medieval Latin calamīna (or some Romance dialect), from Latin cadmia, ultimately from the Ancient Greek κᾰδμείᾱ, κᾰδμήᾱ, κᾰδμῐ́ᾱ (kadmeíā, kadmḗā, kadmíā, calamine).
