German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unadapted borrowing from English interview.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈɪntɐˌvjuː/
  • (file)

Noun[edit]

Interview n (strong, genitive Interviews, plural Interviews)

  1. interview (journalistic dialogue)
    Synonyms: Befragung, Gespräch

Usage notes[edit]

  • German Interview is now sometimes used in contexts other than journalism, particularly for a “job interview”. This usage is still felt as an unnecessary anglicism by many or most language users, however. The normal word is Vorstellungsgespräch.
