Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German lop, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German lob, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *lubą. Cognate with Old English lof, Dutch lof, Swedish lov. More at lofe.

The noun Lob is related to the verb loben. It is not clear if the noun is derived from the verb or vice versa.[1]
