Philippine Hokkien

@Mlgc1998 Are you sure about 敢若? I see it in the Wikipedia article, but 敢若 isn't usually used as why in other varieties of Hokkien. @Mar vin kaiser, could you check? — justin(r)leung _{{ (t...) | c=› }} 06:08, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

@Justinrleung: I'm not sure if 敢若 are the right characters I'm looking for but definitely, at least in my family, I often hear kán-ná/ká-ná being used for why. I rarely hear 為啥物, but I think I've heard it maybe once or twice.--Mlgc1998 (talk) 21:25, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

@Justinrleung: In Philippine Hokkien, the word for "why" is "kàn--ná" or "kàn-ná", or "kàn--ná-tsī", even just "ná". I'm not certain of the characters to use so I haven't put it in Wiktionary yet. But the closest I've found to it is in 闽南方言大词典 which is the Xiamen Hokkien word 敢咧 "kán--leh", also meaning "why". My best guess of the characters of that word is 敢哪, or maybe 簡哪. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 09:07, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
