Usage notes
- Usage of Neger has been declining since the 1950s.[1] The word may still be used well-meaningly by a small portion of the population, chiefly those born before 1950,[2] but usually it has at least a mildly derogatory tone to it. Using Neger to address a black stranger is always highly offensive. In modern public speech the word as such is considered discriminatory and derogatory, and is therefore avoided, except by the far right.[1][3][4]
