  • (Drenthe) First attested as Nieuwlande in 1936. Compound of nieuw (new) and land (land). See also Dutch Low Saxon Neilaande.
  • (Zeeland) First attested as nova terra in 1238. Derived from Middle Dutch nieuwland (newly reclaimed land). Lost to flooding in 1532.
