Etymology 2[edit]

First attested as toesterich in 1413. Derived from a contracted compound of ooster (“eastern”) and wijk (“village, settlement”). Compare Meterik, Middelijk, Noordijk, Schadijk, Westrik, De Zoeke, Zoeke and Zuuk.
