[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *lugtei, from Proto-Indo-European *lugʰ-yé-ti, ye-present of *lewgʰ- (“to lie, to tell falsehood”).
Cognate with Lithuanian lūgóti (“to request, bet”), Latvian lùgt (“to request, invite”).
