Etymology[edit]

From an earlier žěliti, an intensive variant of Proto-Slavic *želěti. Formed as *žalь (grief, sorrow) +‎ *-iti, continuing pre-Slavic *gʷēlH- +‎ *-yéti.

Verb[edit]

*žaliti impf (perfective *žalovati)[1]
