[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *bʰoHu-eye-, from *bʰuH- (“to be”). Morphologically *byti (“to be”) + *-iti (“iterative suffix”).[1]
Baltic cognates include Lithuanian bùvintis (“to sojourn”). Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit भावयति (bhāváyati, “to cause to be, cherish, refresh”).
