Hindi[edit]

@Aryamanarora Is Hindi भागना (bhāgnā) descended from this root? Seems likely. But I have not found any Sanskrit word which could have given rise to Hindi भागना (bhāgnā). माधवपंडित (talk) 01:50, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@माधवपंडित: [1] seems to say भग्न (bhagna, broken) and भज्यते (bhajyate, breaks) are the ancestor, and that a semantic shift occurred? Perhaps this is a case of Hindi taking from Prakrit taking from Proto-Indo-Aryan, with no Sanskrit descendant at all. —Aryamanarora (मुझसे बात करो) 01:59, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Aryamanarora: Even I first thought this though I wasn't sure this was possible. Technically I know it is possible but I have no idea what the experts think.माधवपंडित (talk) 02:14, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
