Loanwords
[edit]Where do we stand on loans into other non-Slavic languages? Like a lot of Central Asian languages (Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek to just name a few) have borrowed this term from Russian. Should these be added here, or both here and in the Russian entry? Mulder1982 (talk) 00:54, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Mulder1982, i would add to both entries (like in *tъrgъ, търгъ (tŭrgŭ)) —Игорь Тълкачь (talk) 05:40, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
- They can be added below with the heading "Other" or "non-Slavic", as in Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/bergъ. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:32, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
Borrowing
[edit]@Sławobóg: Czech: pivo → Slovene: pívo. Why? I didn't find this in the sources. ɶLerman (talk) 11:13, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
- I found that a bit strange too but that is indeed what Marko Snoj's Slovenski etimološki slovar says. Mulder1982 (talk) 11:38, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
- KEKW I've looked at the source, and I think this is the right decision:
- PS *pȋvo (“beverage”) > (obsolete) pívo (“beverage”)
- Czech: pivo (“beer”) → pívo (“beer”) ~ (obsolete) ọ̑ł (“beer”) < *ȍlъ (“bitter drink; beer”)
