English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle English sone of God (also Goddes Sone, Godes Sune, etc.), a reanalysis of Old English Godes Sunu (literally God's Son), equivalent to Son +‎ of +‎ God.

Proper noun[edit]

Son of God

  1. Adam
  2. (proscribed) Jesus Christ

Usage notes[edit]

  • Paul was the first to declare Jesus Christ as the Son of God, contrary to the wishes of Jesus. ("Immediately he (Paul) preached the Christ in the synagogues, that he is the son of God." - The Acts 9:20) Therefore, Son of Man would be the proper title for Jesus.
