Talk:πιέζω

@Barytonesis, JohnC5: Do you guys know the outcome of PIE -sd- in Ancient Greek? The /s/ was voiced to /z/ in all descendants because of the next consonant anyway. Can we derive this word from PIE *pisd- (to squeeze) with a Sanskrit cognate पीडयति (pīḍayati, “presses, squeezes”)? I can only find *pesd- where the outcome is βδ. Is this regular? -- माधवपंडित (talk) 01:57, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
- @माधवपंडित: PIE *-sd- [*-zd-] > PG -zd- > AG -ζ- (e.g. *sí-sd-oh₂ > *hizdō > ἵζω (hízō)). βδέω (bdéō) is irregular. —*i̯óh₁nC[5] 06:09, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
