@Metaknowledge, Wikitiki89, can you check if Yiddish lab supposedly meaning “jersey, garment covering the torso” exists? I only find לאַפּ (lap, lapel). --Vahag (talk) 21:09, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Vahagn Petrosyan: I cannot find anything else. But, לײַב (layb, body) would have been pronounced [la:p] in Poland and [lab] in Ukraine. --WikiTiki89 13:13, 28 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that must be the word the Russian sources refer to. The gloss “фуфайка” they use though seems spurious. --Vahag (talk) 14:32, 28 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
